Taking all of the printed pamphlets from the Sutro Baths archive, I collapsed all 40 pamphlets together and then deleted everything but the rule lines, the fantastic wording (Grand, Immense, Lofty, etc), and the type ornaments. I made sure to leave things exactly as they were on the original pamphlets. When one element overlapped with another element, I utilized a color-coding system—if an element wasn’t touching anything else it was teal, if it touched one other element it was purple, and if it touched two or more elements it was pink. This created a layered look and made the elements pop. I then began to combine and recombine making many iterations of posters. The final step was to screen print them.
